Lab Operations Specialist


Be on the front-lines of the dental industry as the Lab Operations Specialist with Heartland Dental, the #1 commercial consumer of dental lab services in the country. The Lab Operations Specialist manages Heartland Dental’s lab relationships and owns the “Diamond Trusted Labs” process; the process by which preferred lab partners are identified, on-boarded and managed. This position provides clinical operational support to Heartland Dental’s supported dental offices in the acquisition of lab services; supporting both internal business/clinical units and external lab partners.  The Lab Operations Specialist ensures a strong and successful partnership for the acquisition of quality lab services at the best possible price.

This position reports to the Manager, Direct Supply Chain.


Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Provide clinical operational support to Doctors and teams while ensuring we offer quality dental lab services at the best possible price
  • Communicate the benefits of utilizing Diamond Trusted Lab services (and Trusted Clinical supplies, as appropriate) to Doctors and team members
  • Manage the performance of Heartland Dental’s strategic lab partners (quality, delivery, cost, etc.) and evaluating potential new partners
  • Serve as subject matter expert for lab agreements, including warranty commitments, pricing, rebates, etc.
  • Obtain sponsorships for clinical educational programs from lab partners and support those labs attending
  • Partner with Scanner Support Team to implement a digital workflow with Heartland Dental’s Diamond Trusted Labs
  • Partner with Finance & Accounting to ensure lab rebates and services are accounted for appropriately
  • Maintain a high level of dental industry awareness to keep current on new products, technologies, strategies, and market trends
  • Special projects, as assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Dental related field OR Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field OR a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the dental industry
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills and experience creating & managing reports
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with external entities (labs), co-workers and supported dental office teams in a collegial manner to accomplish common goals
  • High level of maturity, personal initiative, and sound judgment
  • Ability to travel multiple times per month on short notice

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Dental Lab specific dental industry experience
