    Position Description

    Strategic Initiatives (SI) team is a dedicated internal consulting group with a mandate to lead critical strategic transformation efforts focused on the company’s most critical and impactful needs. The Strategic Initiatives team is responsible for delivering on initiatives defined by the EVP of Strategy & Development, CEO and Board focused on both long-term strategic questions and high impact initiatives.


    Heartland Dental is seeking a Strategic Initiatives Manager to lead internal client projects, manage project teams, coach junior colleagues, and take responsibility for initiatives Heartland is embarking on given its significant growth trajectory amid the structural shift in the US dental industry. You will work within the Strategic Initiatives Department, reporting to the Sr. Director of Strategic Initiatives. The Strategic Initiatives team follows a hypothesis-driven, fact-based approach to solve critical business problems.

The Strategic Initiatives Manager works closely with leaders and key internal stakeholders to drive key strategic initiatives and programs critical for the success of the company.


    The Strategic Initiatives Manager will focus on framing strategic options, sizing and developing action plans to realize value.  You will make an important contribution to the analysis, design, and implementation of business performance approaches, developing solutions and working closely with other Heartland departments/functions to ensure positive impact and sustainable results. You will build on your proven leadership skills and leverage your interest in inspiring others, building strong relationships, and creating a true partnership across the company.


    Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

    • Project & Team Leadership
      • Lead strategic project problem solving efforts by helping teams to identify and define key issues, develop hypotheses, and design required analyses.
      • Work cross-functionally to gather and align strategic initiative goals and identify major area of work and key deliverables.
      • Work with team to develop work plans to test / evaluate strategies and insights which could span process improvement, organizational change, and functional strategy efforts
      • Build initiative plans, timelines, and milestones, manages work plans, and leads and supports working team through implementation and measurement.
    • Problem Solving and Strategy Development
      • Identify and analyze business gaps and opportunities, structures complex problems, synthesizes insights, develops innovative business strategies, and makes fact-based and data-driven recommendations.
      • Develop strategic fact-based and data-driven analysis to highlight business and industry trends, financial analysis, business practices, and macro issues with potential to address our enterprise-wide priorities.
      • Scope problems, identify major issues and actionable opportunities, design solutions, and quantify potential bottom-line business and financial impact.
      • Select and effectively execute the most appropriate quantitative analysis techniques for the problem at hand.
    • Presentation & Communication
      • Develop executive and board-level presentations to report program progress and facilitate alignment.
      • Create structured presentations illustrating key business issues, new insights and recommendations and communicates to key sponsors and cross-functional teams. Tailor communications based on the intended audience and purpose.
      • Communications are effective in achieving the intended goal. Facilitates meetings and working sessions with mid- to senior-level leadership.
    • Execution & Implementation
      • Lead the implementation of new strategy and initiatives through strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
      • Lead the day to day execution of strategic initiatives projects while guiding and developing individual team members.  
      • Test and pilot ideas, develop tracking templates and process to ensure results delivery
    • Client Relations & Team Building
      • Advise and influence senior leaders and business executives on key business decisions and major change initiatives.
      • Develop deep trust-based advisor relationships with key client stakeholders and ensure client is satisfied throughout engagement.
      • Develop junior team members both formally and informally, including serving as a mentor.


    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s Degree
    • At least 3 years of management consulting experience with a top-tier consulting firm or an internal consulting/corporate strategy team
    • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
    • Structured thinking and are able to quickly derive relevant, meaningful insights from qualitative and quantitative data
    • Ability to effectively communicate direction, vision, and complex ideas effectively
    • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
    • Proven track record of successfully collaborating with and influencing senior leadership and peers to drive growth and financial results.


    Desirable Qualifications

    • MBA preferred
    • Healthcare industry experience is preferred, but not mandatory
    • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple, complex projects with proven track record
    • Strong client management and executive-level communication skills, both oral and written in order to effectively interact with internal clients, business partners and senior leaders
    • Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment; Professional and productive leadership skills – strong leadership, lead by example.
